Lagos schools, NDLEA partner to tackle drug abuse among students

Education District VI in Lagos has strengthened its preventive sensitisation drive against substance abuse with a recent collaborative engagement with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Zone VIII Command in Gbagada, as authorities step up efforts to protect students from growing exposure to drugs and harmful social influences.

The visit, led by the Director of Schools Administration, Adeola Ayo‑Vaugh, focused on strengthening partnerships between schools and law enforcement in addressing drug-related risks in secondary schools across the district.

At the meeting, NDLEA Zonal Commander, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics Aniete Nse Inam, pledged the agency’s support for sustained preventive education, while stressing that effective intervention requires cooperation beyond the classroom.

“Schools and teachers cannot do it alone; parents must provide active guidance, supervision, and value-based nurturing at home,” he said.

Ayo-Vaugh said the district’s strategy prioritises prevention over rehabilitation, noting that early intervention through awareness campaigns remains key to safeguarding
