The Military Pension Board has issued a fraud alert to retirees and next of kin, warning them against disclosing sensitive personal or financial information to individuals posing as officials or agents of the pension system.
In a statement cited on its X handle on Friday, the Board’s Public Relations Officer Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, said it had received reports of fraudulent individuals attempting to obtain confidential data under the guise of processing pension-related benefits.
According to the Board, retirees are being targeted for details such as Bank Verification Numbers, National Identification Numbers, bank account information and ATM card details.
“The Board has received reports that some individuals are demanding personal details such as Bank Verification Numbers, National Identification Numbers, bank account details, ATM card information, and other confidential data,” the statement said.
It strongly cautioned pensioners to avoid engaging with unauthorised persons or platforms requesting such information.
