The Federal Government has commenced a $100 million mini-grid power initiative in Kogi State, with the groundbreaking of a 20-megawatt project in Egume, Dekina Local Government Area.
Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, performed the ceremony on Friday, describing the project as the largest mini-grid in North Central Nigeria.
Two additional projects were also commissioned in Kogi East: a 700-kilowatt mini-grid in Offa, Olamaboro LGA, and a 400-kilowatt mini-grid in Emewe Efopa, Dekina LGA.
Audu explained that the projects, executed under the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and Ministry of Power, are part of the “Light Up Kogi” initiative aimed at expanding electricity access, boosting economic growth, improving healthcare and education, and enhancing security.
“These projects demonstrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to grassroots development. They will unlock opportunities for businesses, improve living standards, and strengthen security across Igala land,” Audu said.
