A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of Paul Jibrin Oweleke in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) following allegations that he used his online platform, Oweleke TV, to call for the overthrow of President Bola Tinubu.
Oweleke was arraigned on a two-count charge of incitement and cybercrime, accused of publishing broadcasts urging the Nigerian military to emulate recent coups in West African nations.
The DSS argued that his posts were capable of inciting public disorder, undermining democracy, and threatening national security.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. While DSS counsel requested his remand pending trial, Oweleke’s lawyer noted that a bail application had already been filed.
Presiding judge Akintoye Aluko adjourned the matter to June 16 for the bail hearing and ordered that Oweleke remain in DSS custody until then.
