Heavy rain, windstorm kill grandmother, granddaughter in Bauchi

A heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds has claimed the lives of two persons and destroyed several houses and property in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to the statement, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday following a downpour accompanied by a severe windstorm.

“Preliminary reports indicate that on June 10, 2026, Kirfi Local Government Area experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, 4-year-old, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA,” the statement read.
