The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded a privately operated aircraft and suspended the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) following a ‘missed approach’ while attempting to land at Asaba and a subsequent unauthorised flight back to Lagos.
A ‘missed approach’ is an aviation procedure where a pilot discontinues an approach to landing and climbs away from the runway. It is a heavily practised manoeuvre designed to ensure an aircraft safely avoids terrain and other traffic.
According to a preliminary report signed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The regulatory body is treating the subsequent departure from the emergency scene as a severe violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs).
