At least 10 people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured after a commercial vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Bagega–Anka road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Monday when a Volkswagen Golf 3 Wagon carrying passengers from Bagega to Anka ran over the explosive, allegedly planted by suspected bandits.
Initially, police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar reported one fatality and seven injuries. However, subsequent search operations by tactical teams uncovered nine additional bodies, bringing the death toll to 10.
The blast happened between Tungar Kudaku and Bagega communities, prompting immediate deployment of security operatives for assessment and recovery.
The victims’ bodies were evacuated to hospital facilities before being released to families for burial in line with Islamic rites.
Authorities have since intensified security patrols along the Anka–Bagega corridor to reassure road users and prevent further attacks.
