JUST IN: FG Declares Friday as Public Holiday to Mark Democracy Day

The Federal Government has declared Friday a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values, including the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

He further assured that the Ministry, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, would continue to implement measures aimed at strengthening internal security across the country.

The Minister emphasised that a safe and stable environment remains crucial for the sustenance of democracy and national development.

He urged Nigerians to use the public holiday as an opportunity for civic reflection and renewed commitment to nation-building.
