1. Prominent lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, his Afrobeats singer son, Mr Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, alongside civil society organisations, youth groups, among others, on Friday staged a protest in Lagos. They demanded urgent action to address worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
2. Former Vice president and Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has said Nigeria’s democracy is yet to translate into prosperity for the citizens. He also blamed some political actors for their behaviour, saying it has betrayed the ideas of those who fought and died for democracy in the country.
3. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed that the 46 pupils and teachers abducted by suspected bandits on May 15 are still within the Old Oyo National Park corridor. Makinde disclosed this while giving an update on the rescue efforts in his Newsletter No. 140, released on Friday.
4. Borno State Government has reintegrated 720 repentant Boko Haram members, alongside 992 women and 2,050 children, into their communities after completing a rehabilitation and deradicalisation programme. Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to Governor Babagana Zulum on Security, Brigadier General Abdullahi Ishaq, said the graduates had willingly surrendered to the military.
5. Veteran Nollywood actor, Kola Oyewo, has been announced dead. He was 80 years old. Nollywood actor Kunle Afod confirmed Oyewo’s passing in an Instagram post.
