As Nigeria marked the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and his Niger State counterpart, Mohammed Umaru Bago, called on Nigerians to remain united, protect democratic institutions, and work collectively towards sustaining the nation’s democratic gains.
In his Democracy Day message commemorating June 12, Governor Abdulrazaq described Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance as a testament to the resilience, determination, and collective aspirations of its people.
The governor paid glowing tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, particularly the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, whose sacrifice and commitment to democratic ideals remain a symbol of the nation’s quest for civil rule and good governance.
Abdulrazaq urged Nigerians to remain vigilant in safeguarding democracy, stressing that the country’s democratic journey must continue to be nurtured through unity, tolerance, and active citizen participation.
