The National Orientation Agency has urged Nigerians to embrace voluntary blood donation to save more lives.
Director of the agency in Jigawa, Mr Ahmad Tijjani, said this on Sunday in a message to mark the 2026 World Blood Donor Day.
The day is celebrated on June 14 to recognise and appreciate the contributions of voluntary blood donors.
The theme of the day is “Twenty years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors.”
He said every unit of blood donated saves patients facing emergencies, stressing that Nigerians should regularly and voluntarily donate blood to save lives.
According to Tijjani, blood donation saves lives by providing critical support during accidents, surgeries and medical emergencies, supporting maternal health, helping patients with sickle cell disease, cancer and other conditions, as well as strengthening communities through shared responsibility.
