A total of 492 National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members have been sworn in for the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise in Kebbi State, with Governor Nasir Idris pledging to improve their welfare and security during their service year.
The governor made the pledge at the swearing-in ceremony held at the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Bausaura, Jega Local Government Area, where he urged the corps members to make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nurudeen Bala-Fingilla, Idris described the NYSC scheme as a vital platform for promoting national unity and fostering development across the country.
He noted that corps members had over the years contributed significantly to sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, environmental sanitation and community development in Kebbi State.
The governor encouraged the participants to take active part in all camp activities, describing the orientation course as an opportunity to build discipline, teamwork, leadership and a spirit of selfless service.
He also urged them to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme, stressing that practical and entrepreneurial skills are essential for wealth creation and self-reliance in the face of limited government employment opportunities.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed that 492 corps members had successfully registered for the exercise, comprising 307 males and 185 females.
Kagarko also urged the participants to obey camp rules and regulations and remain law-abiding throughout their service year.
