Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has strongly condemned a Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle on Monday, Sowore described the judgment as undemocratic and inconsistent with the principles of a multi-party democracy.
He argued that it is unacceptable to deregister parties that had already conducted their primaries and were actively preparing for future elections.
“It shall not stand. I totally condemn the deregistration of political parties that have already concluded their primaries and are preparing for general elections. Such an action is undemocratic and unjustifiable in a multi-party democracy,” Sowore wrote.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday. It ordered INEC to immediately deregister the ADC, Accord Party, Action
