Warri-Itakpe Train Accident: NRC Confirms Recovery, Passengers Discharged

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that all passengers injured in the June 8 Warri–Itakpe train accident have been treated and discharged, while equipment involved in the incident has been fully recovered.

Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, confirmed in Lagos on Tuesday that one staff member with serious injuries remains under specialist care.

The accident occurred at 4:17 p.m. near the Goodluck Jonathan Railway Station in Agbor, Delta State, when four coaches derailed. 

The train, carrying 442 passengers and 40 crew members, had departed Itakpe Station earlier that day en route to Ujevwu, Warri.

Five people lost their lives, while injured passengers were rushed to hospitals in Agbor and nearby communities. 

Opeifa emphasized that all passengers and personnel have been accounted for and expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased.
