Democracy not perfect, but better than alternative – Soludo

The Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said Nigeria’s democracy which clocked 27 years last Friday was not perfect.

The, however, added that the current democratic system remains far better than alternative form of governance.

Soludo stated this when he spoke at the third anniversary of the Anambra State House of Assembly over the weekend.

He added, “Nigeria’s 27-year-old democratic journey, has witnessed appreciable improvements in the electoral processes. Despite its imperfections, the current democratic system remains far better than alternative forms of governance and should be appreciated and strengthened.

“I commend the legislature, it is one of the most productive in the state’s history. The passage of several consequential laws, prominent among them, the Local Government Administration Law, has strengthened grassroots governance, improved fiscal stability, and enabled the clearance of gratuity arrears owed to retirees as well as the Homeland Security Law, which has reinforced the state’s security
