Customs, US firms move to deepen trade ties, tackle bottlenecks

The Nigeria Customs Service and the American Business Council have reaffirmed their commitment to improving trade relations, addressing operational bottlenecks, and strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.

Both parties made the pledge during a quarterly engagement held on June 16, 2026, at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja, where discussions focused on trade facilitation, cargo clearance efficiency, border security, and ongoing reforms in customs administration.

According to a statement issued by the Service on Wednesday, the meeting also examined strategies aimed at improving the ease of doing business for both local and foreign investors operating in Nigeria.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said sustained engagement with the private sector remains central to ongoing reforms within the Service, noting that regular consultation will help identify challenges and develop practical solutions to improve trade operations.
