
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State has begun the distribution of sensitive election materials ahead of Saturday’s June 20 governorship poll.
The exercise, which took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Ado-Ekiti, started early on Thursday at about 8:00 a.m. under the supervision of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Bunmi Omoseyindemi.
The process was observed by security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
INEC officials assigned to the state’s 16 local government areas were seen signing for and collecting materials meant for their respective councils before loading them into vehicles escorted by security operatives.
Speaking with journalists, Omoseyindemi described the exercise as smooth and well-coordinated, reiterating the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible, transparent and violence-free election.
