El-Rufai has been held by the ICPC since February 19.

On April 13, the ICPC took the former governor to a Kaduna high court with a revised set of nine charges related to alleged fraud and misuse of office.

But addressing journalists yesterday, the Emir said that officials asked for an emir and a high-ranking government person to guarantee El-Rufai’s release.

He said: “For example, take a look at what’s going on with my brother, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai that he is currently in custody and the conditions for his release are very tough.

“They said that both an emir and a high-ranking government official need to sign his bail.”
