
Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has arrived in Doha, Qatar, to assume duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador, marking a transition from overseeing one of the country’s most sensitive domestic institutions to a key diplomatic posting.
He was received at the Hamad International Airport by Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the Protocol Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signalling Qatar’s formal acceptance of his appointment.
The reception also featured 13 African ambassadors, alongside the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, Dr Philip Mshelbila, and the President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation in Qatar, Michael Ndukaihe Ihekwaba.
The presence of such a wide diplomatic and professional delegation underscored Nigeria’s importance to Qatar and the expectations surrounding Yakubu’s new assignment.
