Security breach: Abia Assembly launches action against kidnappers


The Abia State House of Assembly on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, resolved to take firm action against kidnappers and other criminal elements operating in the state.

The House also unanimously decided to summon security chiefs in the state for an interface to address the rising cases of kidnapping and security breaches in parts of Abia.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie Mmeregini, during plenary.

Presenting the motion, Mmeregini expressed concern over the recent abduction of Mr. Dennis Okechi Izuchukwu and Mrs. Onyiyechi Ekechukwu by gunmen at Umuawa, Alaocha community in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

He warned that the fresh wave of kidnappings demands immediate and decisive action from the government.

The Deputy Speaker urged the House to put pressure on the Abia State Homeland Security Agency and other sister security agencies to intensify efforts towards protecting lives and property
