Lagos to Repatriate 226 Beggars Arrested in Statewide Raid

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to repatriate 226 beggars arrested during a statewide enforcement exercise on Thursday.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, disclosed that the individuals were apprehended in a coordinated operation carried out by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.

In a statement, Wahab explained that the exercise was part of the government’s ongoing environmental clean-up and enforcement campaign aimed at enhancing public safety and maintaining order. 

He noted that street begging contributes to environmental pollution and poses a public nuisance.

“During today’s clean-up and enforcement exercise across Lagos State, a total of 226 beggars were apprehended,” Wahab said. 

He added that those arrested would undergo profiling and documentation before being relocated to their respective states of origin.
