Tinubu retains Adeniyi as Customs CG till February 2027 in second tenure extension

President Bola Tinubu has retained Adewale Adeniyi as the comptroller-general of Customs till February 2027, extending his tenure, which was set to end in August 2026 after a one-year extension in 2025, by another six months.

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to the president, in a press statement on X, said the extension is to “enable him to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window,” which went live with its first phase on March 27, 2026 and “ensure an orderly succession in the service.”

The presidency regarded this extension as “final” and a “transition period,” whereby Adeniyi, working with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board, “will ensure the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and the compulsory retirement of officers who have attained 60 years of age
