The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has begun investigations into reports of alleged contamination of the water supply in some halls of residence, following concerns raised by students.
Reports indicate that there was anxiety on campus on Wednesday after some students in a female hostel complained of vomiting, stooling and other health issues, alleging that the water supplied to some hostels had been contaminated.
In a statement, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, spokesperson for the university, said the attention of the management had been drawn to the reports, noting that “the matter is being treated with utmost urgency and seriousness.”
The university’s spokesperson said relevant departments have commenced a thorough assessment of the water supply system, including necessary water quality tests, to determine the accuracy of the reports and identify any potential risks.
