The Founder of Sickle Cell Awareness Initiative Ireland–Nigeria, Esther Onolememen, has called for increased investment in healthcare, research, advocacy, and support systems for people living with sickle cell disorder.

Speaking in a goodwill message released on Friday to commemorate World Sickle Cell Day, Onolememen hailed the resilience of individuals living with the condition and their caregivers, describing them as “warriors” whose courage and determination continue to inspire communities around the world.

According to her, despite the physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with sickle cell disorder, affected individuals and their families have continued to demonstrate remarkable strength and hope.

“Living with sickle cell disorder is far more than a medical journey. It is a daily testament to resilience, perseverance, and strength. Our warriors and their families continue to inspire us through their courage and unwavering belief that a brighter future is possible,” she said.

Onolememen also commended the Niger Delta
