The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dare Bejide, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of widespread vote buying and intimidation during Saturday’s governorship election.
Bejide, who voted at Polling Unit 004, Ward 2, Oke Adura in Ilawe-Ekiti, claimed that APC members, including local government officials, were openly distributing money to voters at his polling unit in a bid to influence the election outcome.
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, the ADC flagbearer said several APC leaders arrived with large sums of cash. He also alleged that his driver was assaulted and injured while trying to protect him from being pushed during the incident.
The driver was later taken to a hospital for treatment.Bejide said the matter was reported to the police but expressed disappointment over the response of security agents at the scene.
He condemned the alleged vote buying as a breach of democratic principles and an embarrassment
