Family raises the alarm over DSS detention of activist

The family of Hausa activist and social media commentator, Ibrahim Bichi, has demanded his “immediate and unconditional” release from the custody of the Department of State Services.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, Bichi’s wife, Hauwa Mundi, alleged that the DSS arrested her husband and kept him in custody for two weeks without notifying any member of his family or allowing him to communicate with them.

She described the prolonged detention without access to family members as a violation of his fundamental rights, warning that legal action could be taken if the agency failed to justify her husband’s continued detention.

Mundi said she became alarmed when she was unable to reach her husband for two weeks and that, upon enquiry, she was informed that he was being held at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

She said the DSS had yet to disclose the reasons for her husband’s arrest or bring any charges
