A faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has distanced the Igbo nation from comments attributed to Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, calling for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Monday, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation described the comparison between political developments in the United Kingdom and Nigeria as “misplaced” and lacking contextual relevance.
The statement was signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and Chibuikeya Achoakawa, Deputy Secretary-General.
The organisation said Obi’s position did not reflect the collective will, political direction or strategic interest of the Igbo people and the south-east region.
“Accordingly, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide unequivocally disassociates the Igbo nation from the said call for resignation of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement reads.
The organisation said it recognised ongoing federal infrastructure interventions across the country, particularly in the south-east.
