
The Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, has issued a safety advisory to mariners, boat operators and residents of riverine communities, warning of increased risks of boat accidents due to rising water levels during the ongoing rainy season.
The advisory was issued on Tuesday by the Maritime Component of OPWS on the directive of the Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara.
In a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, the Maritime Component Commander, Lt. Cdr. Dusse Zakari, said the rise in water levels across inland waterways had led to stronger currents and turbulence capable of endangering water transportation and other riverine activities.
