At least eight people have been killed in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Gulma town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident was reportedly triggered when a farmer was allegedly stabbed to death by a Fulani herder while working on his farmland.
The killing sparked a reprisal by some members of the farming community, who allegedly stormed nearby Fulani settlements, resulting in the death of eight persons and heightening tension in the area.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the violence occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
According to him, security operatives swiftly intervened to contain the situation and prevent further loss of lives.
