JUST IN: INEC Ordered to Register New Political Party, CDA


The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party called the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) and hand over their certificate.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, June 23.

Tamunotonye Samuel Solomon Inioribo and two others had sued INEC for blocking the party’s registration back in December 2025. Before INEC rejected them, the political association had already secured initial approval, submitted all necessary paperwork, and passed security and background checks on their national leaders and offices.

The founders headed to court, insisting they ticked every single box required by law. Justice Egwuatu agreed with their argument and ordered INEC to issue the CDA its registration certificate without delay.

With the ruling, the political parties heading into the 2027 elections are set to increase.

The CDA describes itself as a progressive movement ready to push for democratic reforms, jumpstart the economy,
