‘Peter Obi needs schooling on democracy, constitution’ — Presidency condemns resignation call

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has criticised Peter Obi over his recent call for the President to resign from office.

In a statement posted on Dare’s official social media page, he said Obi’s demand was inconsistent with the provisions of Nigeria’s constitutional presidential system, which provides for fixed terms of office for elected presidents.

The presidential aide argued that Nigeria does not operate a parliamentary system where governments can be removed through votes of confidence.

“Nigeria is a constitutional presidential democracy. Presidents are elected for fixed terms and leave office through elections, constitutional processes, incapacity or the expiration of their mandate,” Dare stated.

Obi had earlier urged President Tinubu to resign, citing worsening economic hardship, insecurity and what he described as unfulfilled campaign promises.

Reacting, Dare maintained that Obi’s position reflected what he described as a misunderstanding
