
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have foiled a kidnap attempt along the Benin–Abraka Road, rescuing passengers of a commercial bus after engaging suspected kidnappers in a gun duel.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the incident occurred on June 21, 2026.
According to the statement, armed men intercepted a commercial bus belonging to Muyi Line Transport Company and opened fire on the vehicle before attempting to abduct its occupants.
“The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the public that operatives of the Ugo Division successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Benin–Abraka Road on June 21, 2026.
“At about 6:46 p.m. on the said day, information was received from a concerned source that armed kidnappers had emerged at a failed portion of the road near the NNPC pipeline axis and intercepted a commercial bus belonging to Muyi Line
