Eight-year-old beats 150 others to win spelling competition

In a stunning display of brilliance that left educators, parents and community leaders in awe, an eight-year-old primary four pupil of Gaius Benton School, Oko, in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra, Master Chinemelum Chinonso, has won the spelling bee Season 3 of the Joseph Onuorah Foundation.

Chinonso defeated pupils of 150 nursery and primary schools to emerge the overall winner of the just-concluded spelling bee.

The historic grand finale, held over the weekend at the packed Ndiowu Town Hall, Enumgbom Village, Ndiowu, attracted crowd of parents, teachers, education stakeholders, traditional leaders, community representatives and enthusiastic supporters who gathered to witness what has become one of the most prestigious academic competitions for primary school pupils in the region.

Expressing happiness over the success of the event, the founder of Joseph Onuorah Foundation, Chief Joseph Onuorah, said the competition is designed to encourage literacy, vocabulary development, public speaking confidence
