PRP Opposes State Police, Questions Tinubu’s Motive

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly opposed the establishment of state police, arguing that President Bola Tinubu’s administration lacks the credibility and public trust needed to implement such a major security reform.  

  

 In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the party described the move as suspicious and urged Nigerians to reject it. 

The position comes just a day after the Senate passed the Constitution Alteration Bill for state police.  

  

“The Peoples Redemption Party is deeply concerned over plans by President Tinubu’s administration to procure State Police through constitutional amendment at a time when its credibility and competence are at an unprecedented low level in our democratic history,” Baba-Ahmed said. 

  

 The PRP acknowledged the need for a major overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture but insisted that the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration does not have the moral standing to oversee it.
