
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ayodele Arise, has commended President Bola Tinubu and members of the National Assembly for the swift passage of the State Police Bill, describing it as a major step towards addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Arise, who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011, gave the commendation at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
The Senate on Wednesday joined the House of Representatives in passing the State Police Bill, paving the way for the establishment of state police services nationwide.
The PUNCH reported that if approved by at least 24 State Houses of Assembly, the legislation will end the Federal Government’s exclusive control of policing, allowing states to establish, fund and manage their own police services while operating within national standards set by the National Assembly.
