At least 11 family members of suspected Boko Haram fighters five women and six children have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State.
According to a report by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the surrender took place on June 24 at separate locations in Banki, Bama Local Government Area.
Chongolo village: Four women and four children voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion.
Banki Junction: Another woman and two children surrendered to the 151 Task Force Battalion.Preliminary military profiling confirmed that the individuals were family members of Boko Haram fighters who fled insurgent enclaves seeking safety.
They have since been handed over to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Bama for further processing and rehabilitation.
Makama noted that the development reflects a wave of defections from terrorist strongholds amid sustained military pressure in the North-East.
