2027: It’s Unreasonable to Close Voter Registration Early – Sam Amadi

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for closing the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise well ahead of the 2027 general elections. 

In a Sunday interview on Arise Television, Amadi argued that voter registration should remain open until at least one month before the election to ensure broader participation, particularly among young Nigerians. 

“Closing voter registration nearly seven months before an election is unreasonable,” he stated. “It prevents many young Nigerians who turn 18 before Election Day from registering to vote, effectively denying them the opportunity to participate until the next election cycle.” 

Amadi acknowledged that INEC has made significant improvements in recent years but maintained that the commission still relies on outdated processes that limit democratic inclusion.
