The New Nigeria People’s Party on Tuesday announced that it had uploaded a placeholder presidential candidate on the Independent National Electoral Commission portal ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the move was in line with electoral guidelines.
The party also said its original logo had been restored on the INEC portal, describing the development as a victory in its leadership tussle and a confirmation of the legitimacy of the National Working Committee led by its National Chairman, Dr Major Agbo.
The NNPP has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership crisis, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s leadership and identity.
The dispute has also extended to the party’s logo and control of its affairs ahead of preparations for the 2027 elections.
An independent check by our correspondent confirmed that the old logo, symbolised by a basket of fruits on the map of Nigeria, appears above the party’s name
