A joint international report by Intersociety and the Ekwenche Research Institute has revealed the reasons behind the shunning of military enlistment by residents in the South-East. The report states that over 6,000 Igbo Christian families lost their sons and daughters under the Nigerian military over five years, from January 2021 to July 2026.
Persecution and Casualties in the South-East
The groups stated that their researchers and investigators compiled these findings amid ethno-religious persecution of defenseless South-East Judeo-Christians by political, armed state actors, and armed non-state actors. This persecution included wanton attacks on their territories and properties using structural, cultural, and physical violence.
