Implement Policies That Reduce Poverty – Emir Sanusi Tells Govt

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on Nigerian leaders to prioritise economic policies that directly improve citizens’ welfare, reduce poverty, and promote inclusive growth.

Speaking at a conference in Kano on Thursday, the emir represented by Danmadamin Kano and Professor of Economics at Bayero University Kano, Abubakar Aliyu Sanusi stressed that policies must be evaluated based on their real impact on people’s lives.

“Economic policies should be assessed based on their impact on the welfare of citizens. Any economic policy that does not improve the welfare of the people is inherently ineffective,” the emir said. 

He described the timing of the event as particularly relevant amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic and political difficulties. Sanusi urged leaders to draw lessons from history, strengthen institutions, and uphold justice, warning that unresolved past issues would hinder future progress.
