Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved a new minimum monthly pension of N50,000 for retired civil servants in the state.
The announcement marks a major boost for pensioners, who had been receiving as little as N4,000 per month for decades, an amount widely criticized as inadequate and long protested by retirees.
Governor Fintiri made the disclosure on Friday during a live appearance on the Hausa programme Taba Kidi Taba Karatu on Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Yola.
He described the previous minimum pension as an injustice that his administration was determined to correct.
“The adjustment is a reflection of our appreciation for the years of dedicated service rendered by our pensioners,” the governor said.
He added that the review forms part of broader efforts to improve the welfare of both serving and retired workers in the state.
