The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, on Wednesday, July 15 upheld the authority of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) Act in the regulation of the tax profession in Nigeria in the appeal filed in 2019 by Afolabi Igbaroola and others against the Federal Inland Revenue Service (now Nigeria Revenue Service), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and others.
The appeal arose from the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos Division, delivered on May 21, 2019. The Court of Appeal dismissed the reliefs sought by the plaintiffs in the substantive suit.
The latest judgment forms part of a series of judicial pronouncements concerning the statutory regulation of the taxation profession in Nigeria.
