Indigenes of Umuenu village in Umuawulu Community in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have rejected the decision of the Deputy Governor of the state and the Chairman, State Boundary Committee, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, to allegedly overturn the Supreme Court ruling on the area’s border land.
The people of the community, including the elderly, the youth and women, who alleged bias, trooped out for a peaceful protest over the disputed land.
They insisted that some people from the neighbouring village, Enugwu Quarter, caused the dispute because they bore “false witness” against them over the land.
They also expressed concern that some “powerful forces” were making moves to influence the deputy governor to divide the land, insisting that since the land belongs to them, they will not accept any attempt to share their land.
