Nigerian companies must move workplace diversity and inclusion efforts beyond policy statements and measure their impact on business performance, human resource leaders said, as organisations seek to improve innovation, productivity and employee engagement.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria said companies need to treat inclusion as a strategic business issue rather than a compliance requirement, with executives taking greater responsibility for creating workplaces where diverse employees can contribute to decision-making.
The call was made at the 2026 CEO/CHRO/HRD Forum organised recently by CIPM in Lagos, which brought together business leaders and human resource executives to examine how organisations can strengthen workplace culture.
“Organisational transformation begins with leadership decisions,” President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Ahmed Gobir, stated.
He said diversity and inclusion initiatives would have limited impact without commitment from executives who shape organisational priorities.
