Green maritime offers competitive edge, says Dakuku Peterside

A former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Peterside, has declared that decarbonisation and the wider green maritime concept represent both a regulatory imperative and a significant competitive advantage for the global shipping industry.

In a statement, Peterside stated this during his keynote speech at a high-level webinar organised by Naturehedge in collaboration with the West Africa Green Economic Development Institute, Gregory University, SSA Hub, and the Sustainable Energy Practitioners Association of Nigeria.

Peterside, in his presentation titled “Green Maritime: Strategy and Operations Beyond Optics,” emphasised that green maritime affects the cost of operations, access to capital, profitability, and licence to operate.

“Green maritime is about environmentally sustainable practices, technologies, and policies that reduce impact on the environment,” Peterside stated.
