Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has lamented that greed and personal ambition have fractured the opposition coalition that many Nigerians had hoped would challenge for power in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Dalung said the expectations of citizens were dashed as opposition leaders splintered into multiple camps.

“Greed has taken over. You can see the manifestation of individual ambition and interest, and the list of presidential candidates seems to be endless,” he remarked.

Dalung criticized political elites for prioritizing personal ambition over collective strategy, noting that the opposition is now fragmented across parties. He likened the current situation to Nigeria’s First Republic, where politics was largely divided along regional lines.

“With almost all zones producing presidential candidates, the 2027 elections may descend into confusion, as candidates will concentrate on votes from their regions rather than building national consensus,” he warned.
