FG to deploy 3700 towers, roll out 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic in weeks – Tijani

Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, has declared that the federal government will, in October, begin deployment of 3700 telecommunication towers and rollout 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network in weeks

The critical infrastructure, which has already been approved by President Bola Tinubu, is due for rollout in weeks, while the towers deployment will begin in October, according to the Minister.

He stated that this is part of the measures to expand broadband access and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy, and improve network coverage.

The Minister attributed recent growth in the telecommunications sector to the ongoing reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, as the reform designates digital infrastructure as “critical national infrastructure, telecoms tariff adjustments, and tax harmonisation.

“The government plans to begin deploying about 3,700 telecommunications towers from October to improve mobile network coverage in underserved communities”

He announced that the federal government has concluded resource mobilisation and contractual processes
