The National Assembly was thrown into mild panic on Wednesday following a fire outbreak in the Senate wing of the complex in Abuja.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Hearing Room 107 of the National Assembly complex.
A video from the scene showed staff members using fire extinguishers in an attempt to contain the flames before they spread further.
The fire reportedly broke out shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, who was nominated to represent the North-East on the commission’s board.
As of the time of filing this report, no injuries or casualties had been recorded.
According to reports, the fire may have been triggered by a microwave allegedly left on in the kitchen.
Following the incident, journalists covering activities at the National Assembly were reportedly instructed by committee officials to delete photos and video recordings
