‘Euracare playing monstrous, cynical game’ — Chimamanda Adichie accuses hospital of delaying inquest into son’s death

Chimamanda Adichie has faulted Euracare Hospital, Lagos, for playing a “monstrous, cynical game” by delaying the inquest into the death of the 21-month-old son.

The award-winning author also shared a copy of a letter dated April 16 that she wrote to the chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, detailing the alleged stalling tactics employed by the medical institution as her family pushed for justice.

Nkanu, one of Adichie’s twins, died on January 7, 2026, following complications during a series of preparatory medical procedures.

Adichie subsequently served the hospital a legal notice, alleging that medical negligence and professional misconduct contributed to her son’s death.

The Lagos State Judiciary then commenced an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death on April 14.

However, on June 2, a high court in Lagos had ordered a temporary halt to the inquest following an application filed by Euracare.
