Lawyers from the Nsukka and Obollo-Afor areas of Enugu on Tuesday sealed the high court in Obollo-Afor over the failure of judges posted to the areas to conduct physical proceedings for some years.
Judges posted to judicial zones in Enugu north senatorial district were said to have resorted to virtual court proceedings over security concerns.
On June 3, the lawyers in Enugu north senatorial district marched through major streets in Nsukka to protest against what they described as abandonment of courtrooms following the introduction of virtual proceedings.
The lawyers accused the Enugu judiciary of creating unnecessary bottlenecks by relocating active case files from local judicial divisions to Enugu, the state capital.
The protests affected all five judicial divisions in the zone: Nsukka, Obollo-Afor, Enugu-Ezike, Ogbede and Umulokpa.
On Tuesday, the lawyers closed the high court in Obollo-Afor to press home their demands.
